Restart MySQL

sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server restart

Default url for MySql is localhost:3306. You can access to MySql from Mac’s Terminal.

And then provide the database password. If the root password is blank then simply use the above command without using -p

First Stop MySQL:

  1. Go to: ‘System Preferences’ >> ‘MySQL’ and stop MySQL OR
  2. sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server start
  3. sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server stop
  4. sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server status
  • Run the server in safe mode with privilege bypass: sudo mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables
  • In a new window connect to the database, set a new password and flush the permissions & quit: mysql -u root
  • Run UPDATE mysql.user SET authentication_string=null WHERE User=’root’;
  • Run FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
  • Run exit;

Then
mysql -u root ALTER USER 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED WITH caching_sha2_password BY 'yourpasswd';
